Veronica Mars is a noir drama that premiered on September 22, 2004, on the television network UPN and continue to air on UPN until UPN’s closing. The third season of Veronica Mars aired on UPN’S successor The CW until it’s cancellation on May 22, 2007. Veronica Mars was followed by a movie of the same name in 2014. Hulu announced a fourth season of the show consisting of 8 episodes. The fourth season debuted on July 19, 2019.
Veronica Mars has always been a favorite of mines. I loved the first season of the show, one of my favorite first seasons ever of any television shows. The second season wasn’t as great, but I still very much liked it. The third season was my least favorite of the bunch, (it still is…I think) but I still enjoyed watching these characters and this world I have come to love. I loved the movie, it tied everything that season 3 left open and closed it nicely. I thought it was a satisfying conclusion for Veronica Mars and friends. I just like everyone else thought that was it for the show until it wasn’t.
When Hulu announced they were doing a fourth season of Veronica Mars, I was excited to say the least. I loved the movie, but getting a chance to see more of the world and the characters of Veronica Mars was something I was increasingly excited about. Now that I have finished season 4 of Veronica Mars, I have conflicting opinions on the season as a whole and if this revival was even really necessary at all.
This season is a hard one to write about because there’s some things I really loved about it and some things I really hate about it, (I think you can probably guess what) and there’s some things I thought were either not written well, needed to be improved on, or were just unnecessary. I have all these emotions and feelings about this season because I love this show with a passion and I know what it can do at it’s best. There were glimpses of it this season, but there were also glimpses of it at it’s worst and that’s what makes this so frustrating to write about.

Favorite Episode: Keep Calm and Party On (4×03)
I think all the episodes had really great stuff in them while maybe also having some not so great stuff in it, but this one was probably my favorite. I enjoyed this episode the most out of every episode this season. This episode also features one of my favorite scenes of the season which is Veronica, Logan, Nicole, and Dick partying and then Nicole and Veronica dancing to No Scrubs by TLC. It was nice to see Veronica actually letting loose for once on the show. I liked final scene with the third bombing, even if we knew it was coming because of the trailers. Overall I think this episode offers up the best this season has to offer.
Favorite Character: Logan
Oh how far we have come since season one that Logan is my favorite character, couldn’t imagine that happening when I first watched the pilot. As the series continues I have really grown to love Logan as he has matured, developed, and overcome all of the trauma in his life to become a respectable man. I’m just really proud of him and his journey into becoming the man he becomes in this season.
Favorite Moment: Logan’s Fight (4×02)
The Navy taught him well, taught him very well…
Do I Recommend It?
I don’t know, I feel like if you haven’t watched the show before and you want to watch the revival I think you will probably enjoy it more than the actual fans did. The ending has and will piss people off, I know it did for me and it wasn’t even necessarily what happened, but more so how it happened. The ending was poorly written and left a sour taste in my mouth and reading what went on behind the scenes didn’t help. However I think if you’re a fan of the original series, you’ll just have to watch it and make up your own opinion about the season. Accept the good and accept the bad, what your opinion of the season is up to you and only you.
Personally, if there’s a season five, I’m not sure if I would want to watch it especially as it sounds like the show would be leaving Neptune and the supporting cast behind. I watch and like Veronica Mars because of the setting and the characters that surround Veronica. Stripping those elements away would be stripping the show’s identity away. I need more time to digest this new season and the consequences of it. Either way I’m glad I got to see this world and these characters again, but this was truly the end of an era because this is the end of Veronica Mars as we have known it. Anything after this will be a completely different show and I don’t think that’s a good thing. Time will tell, time will tell…
