In honor of Black History Month, I pulled together a list of black female musicians that I love and who I find to be underrated and underappreciated by the masses. Key word, underrated and underappreciated, sorry no Beyonce, Janet Jackson, or Rihanna. As much as those women rock, they are appreciated by the masses already without any help needed by me. I’m choosing artists that I love that I would love to see grow in popularity (not that that’s everything, but it would be nice). I believe the more we support female musicians the better, but especially women of color as women of color are often ignored for their achievements and innovative trends in music. My goal is to hopefully have people coming away from this article with at least a new artist to support. Without further ado, I will let the music do the rest of the talking.
