The Morning Show is a drama premiering on Apple TV as one of their first series in 2019. The Morning Show stars Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Steve Carell, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. The Morning Show is about The Morning Show, a popular news program broadcast that is disrupted after their leading anchor is accused of sexual misconduct.
The Morning Show has had many conflicting reviews when it first came out. I know many reviewers only saw the first three episodes and many thought the show was slow and gave it negative reviews. But, I knew nothing would stop me from watching this show who have the likes of Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston acting alongside each other. And you know what, I’m glad I didn’t listen to the negative reviews I saw because I really enjoyed The Morning Show more than I thought I would.
I don’t like over-analyzing or over-examining TV shows. I like what I like and dislike what I dislike. I liked the first three episodes, were they a bit slow? Sure, but I didn’t even notice. I enjoyed learning about these characters and their relationships with one another and as the show progresses the viewers are rewarded for having patience with great moments and twists happening in later episodes. The slow build was worth the slower paced episodes, especially for that mic drop of a finale.
Favorite Episode: The Interview (1×10)
All nine hours+ of the previous episodes come ahead to the finale and is worth it. The actors who have all been phenomenal for the entire season are somehow on another level in the finale. The drama and emotions are at an all time high, the whole season was built up to the finale. I had goosebumps more than once while watching the finale. There are so many chilling moments that feel like they were earned because the season took it’s time to build to them and the finale was better because the season took it’s time and didn’t fast track it. The finale benefited from the show taking it’s time and I am so glad that they did because the finale was incredible in my opinion. I loved it.
Honorable Mentions:
Chaos Is the New Cocaine (1×03)
That Woman (1×04)
The Pendulum Swings (1×06)
Lonely at the Top (1×08)
Favorite Character: Cory
It actually took me a minute to pick a favorite character, not because I loved everyone. Quite the opposite, actually! I appreciated all the characters, they were all complex and not one-note, but that doesn’t mean I liked them. They were all interesting, but that didn’t make them endearing. Cory was the character that most interested me in them all. I never knew what his character was going to do. I didn’t know if he would be a more of a villain to the rest of the characters, even after the finale I still am not sure what to make of him. He is a fascinating character that I can’t wait to see more of in season two.
Favorite Performance: Jennifer Aniston’s
The Morning Show is by far Jennifer Aniston’s best role since Friends, I say that without any sort of doubt in my mind. She had landed so many terrible roles since Friends ended and it is so nice to see her in a role where she fully shines and brings this complex character to light. I loved her performance as Alex Levy, the character would frustrate me and pissed me off, but Aniston’s performance keeps her character steady and keeps me from completely turning on her. Jennifer Aniston deserves all the awards she has gotten in the past year. The Morning Show is worth a watch just simply for her performance alone.
Do I Recommend It?
With all the time we all have now, I see no reason why shouldn’t give The Morning Show a try. Get a free trial for Apple TV for a week and binge all 10 episodes of it. It can be a slow burn, but there are plenty of moments throughout the season that will pique your interest. Good twists, great acting, and a fantastic finale make The Morning Show a great show to binge watch. If you are up for a little bit of slow burn, The Morning Show should be the next show you watch. It’s worth it in the end.
