Songs created for movies can typically range from good within the context of the film it was written for to so good it stands completely separate from the film. I prefer songs from the latter because if you can listen to a song from a soundtrack without ever watching the movie it was made for then it must be a great song. Having this in mind I compiled a list of my favorite songs created for movie soundtracks. Some of these movies I have seen, some I haven’t, either way, these songs are exceptional in my opinion.
Let’s Go Crazy – Prince (Purple Rain)
Manic – Michael Sembello (Flashdance)
Season of the Witch (cover) – Lana Del Rey (Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark)
Stayin’ Alive – Bee Gees (Saturday Night Fever)
I Have Nothing – Whitney Houston (The Bodyguard)
9 to 5 – Dolly Parton (9 To 5)
Safe & Sound – Taylor Swift ft. The Civil Wars (The Hunger Games)
Visions of Gideon – Sufjan Stevens (Call Me By Your Name)
Ghost in the Wind – Birdy (The Edge of Seventeen)
Grateful – Rita Ora (Beyond The Lights)

For me, “Love me like you do” from Fifty Shades of Grey is the only genuinely good thing about the movie.
