A Year Later: Narrowing Down The Television Shows I Watch

A year ago today (I planned this well) I reviewed my television watchlist and decided what exactly I needed to cut out and what could stay. Well it’s been a year and it’s time to do it all over again. This time though is more of an update since the last time I did this. I have started new shows and stopped others. If you wanted to know my favorite shows from this list of what I’ve seen and the ones I would most highly recommend. Don’t worry I made that a category of its own.

My Current Favorite Shows

The cast of White Collar
  • The Bold Type – The Bold Type has some of my favorite characters and friendships on TV right now. It’s just a real feel-good show.
  • Cobra Kai – A testament to how good this show is that I’m not a die-hard Karate Kid fan, but I adore this show.
  • Dead To Me – Dead to Me has everything I want from a show in it. Mystery, humor, wonderful characters, and phenomenal acting across the board.
  • Doom Patrol – It’s only been one season, but Doom Patrol quite possibly may be my favorite superhero show ever. Unlike other superhero shows, every episode manages to put a smile on my face. I can’t wait for season 2.
  • Glow – I am a huge wrestling fan and Glow has plenty of humor to make me love it on its own, that the inside wrestling terminology is just a plus.
  • Lucifer – Lucifer has filled my (Buffyverse) fantasy show shaped hole up. The chemistry among the cast is unparalleled which makes every episode a joy to watch.
  • This Is Us – The one show that always manages to make me cry. I haven’t been so invested in characters and a story like this in a very long time.
  • Prodigal Son – I knew from the very first episode that this show had a lot of potential to be great and it hasn’t let me down yet. Constantly one-upping itself and that season finale was incredible. Another show whose season two I can’t wait for.
  • The Good Place – The Good Place possibly has won the title of my favorite comedy show ever because it was so much more than just a comedy show. I look forward to revisiting it soon.
  • 24 – I am not even finished with the show yet, but I can honestly tell you it’s already in the conversation for one of my favorite shows ever. I have fallen in love with this insanity of a show.
  • Parks and Recreation – I love coming back to Park and Recreation because every time I watch an episode it feels like I’m right at home.
  • The West Wing – I’m only two seasons in, but The West Wing keeps raising the bar for itself. The well-written stories, terrific characters, and most important of all the witty dialogue make me more and more enthusiastic about continuing the journey of watching The West Wing.
  • White Collar – I have seen many procedural shows over the years, but never have I been so charmed by one as I have with White Collar. It might just end up becoming my favorite procedural ever if it keeps it up. Also, this show has introduced me to one of my new favorite characters ever if that’s any consolation.
  • Shows I’m Watching: 42
  • Up To Date: 25
  • Haven’t Started: 14
  • Stopped Watching: 12
  • Finished: 6

I am currently watching 67 shows. Compared to last year, I am watching 9 fewer shows. 76 shows dwindle down to 67. Progress, maybe not a ton, but progress enough. I feel like I’m making my way through my watchlist slowly but surely.

What are your current favorite shows? Comment them down below.

  1. Maybe I’m just a creature of habit, but I keep going back to the same shows over and over again, even though there are a ton of shows I want to watch that I’ve never seen or that have seasons I haven’t watched yet. I’m all the time turning on The Goldbergs, Community, Parks & Recreation, The Office, and even How I Met Your Mother when I need background noise while I’m doing other things (which, honestly is a lot of the time). It’s rare that I actively feel like sitting down and paying attention to something on TV, which is why I have yet to watch the 2nd & 3rd seasons of WestWorld or the new season of Dead to Me… or any of about a dozen other shows that I’m sure would be on the list.

    • I can relate to that, until only recently I would always retreat back to rewatching some of my favorite shows instead of starting anything new. But I knew I couldn’t keep watching the same five shows over and over again that would just lessen them. So now I’m just watching a bunch of shows, hoping that I like enough of them that they too eventually become favorites.
